Centennial Celebration

On August 12, 2025, Alpha Psi Omega will officially turn 100 years old—a century of honoring theatre, supporting student artists, and building lasting communities both on and off the stage.

This kind of anniversary deserves something truly special. Rather than hosting a single celebration that only a few could attend, we’ve developed a Centennial Celebration that invites every chapter across the country to get involved—each in a way that fits your chapter’s unique strengths, schedule, and community.

Our Centennial Celebration features three special initiatives designed to mark this historic milestone. Your chapter is encouraged to take part in one, two, or all three—whatever best fits your goals and capacity. Each initiative is flexible, creative, and rooted in our rich history, while also celebrating the vibrant present and exciting future of Alpha Psi Omega.

  1. 100 Years on Stage: The APO Throwback Theatre Project

Revisit the theatrical world of the 1920s—the era in which Alpha Psi Omega was founded—by staging or presenting a reading of a play from that decade. Whether it’s a fully staged production, a staged reading, or even a curated scene night, this initiative offers a unique opportunity to honor APO’s legacy by exploring the voices and works that shaped early 20th-century theatre. Since these plays are now in the public domain, chapters are welcome to record and share their performances with the National Office and fellow casts across the country.

  2. The APO Centennial Stage Challenge: A Nationwide Effort to Support 100 Community Theaters

In honor of our 100th birthday, we’re inviting chapters to support 100 theatres nationwide—including regional, professional, semiprofessional, and community venues. Whether through volunteering, attending performances, promoting local productions, or finding creative ways to engage, this initiative offers a meaningful opportunity to give back to the theatre communities that have long inspired and supported us. It’s also a valuable chance for your members to network, connect with theatre professionals, and build partnerships that can strengthen your chapter well into the future.
  1. Century of Stories: The APO History Project

Help us preserve APO’s legacy by collecting and sharing stories, materials, and artifacts from your chapter’s past and present. Interview alumni and former advisors, revisit old programs and photos, and document the moments and memories that define your chapter’s unique history. Your submissions will become part of a growing archive that honors the voices and experiences that have shaped our organization over the past century. This is also a great opportunity to strengthen your alumni connections and celebrate the impact of APO across generations.

We’ll be sharing more detailed information about each of these initiatives in the coming months, but we wanted to provide this early overview to help with your planning—especially as chapters begin setting their seasons and events. These Centennial Celebration challenges are designed to be flexible, meaningful, and—most importantly—fun. We encourage you to start brainstorming how one or more might align with your chapter’s goals and activities for the year ahead.

Let’s make this celebration as big, bold, and creative as the theatre itself!
