Membership

As a member of Alpha Psi Omega (ΑΨΩ), or our sister association Delta Psi Omega (ΔΨΩ) (for two-year colleges), you’re joining a lifelong network of theatre professionals, educators, and enthusiasts dedicated to advancing the arts. Whether you’re a student, educator, or theatre professional, our community offers unparalleled opportunities for growth, leadership, and collaboration.

Membership Requirements

Institutional Eligibility

Colleges and universities with recognized standing, which have an established theatre program or theatre club for producing plays, are eligible to establish a chapter of Alpha Psi Omega. Two-year colleges are also eligible to join Delta Psi Omega, a sister organization to Alpha Psi Omega, which serves similar purposes for institutions that offer associate degrees.

Each Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega chapter is expected to qualify at least one induction class every two years. To meet these criteria, a chapter must have a theatre production program substantial enough to support new members.

 

Individual Eligibility

Membership eligibility is determined by the local chapter, but minimum national standards include the following:

  • Active Participation in Theatre: Members must have completed at least two semesters of participation in theatre work at their college or university.
  • Variety of Theatre Experience: Members must demonstrate involvement in multiple areas of theatre production, such as acting, directing, playwrighting, technical theatre, front-of-house, publicity, or dramaturgy.
  • Point System: Chapters are stronglyencouraged to use a point system to assess eligibility. The National Office can provide a sample point structure chapters can use as a model.
  • Academic Requirements: Members must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

 

Transfer Membership

Members in good standing of Alpha Psi Omega who transfer to another college or university with an active Alpha Psi Omega chapter are automatically accepted into the new chapter.

Members of Delta Psi Omega who transfer to an institution with an active Alpha Psi Omega chapter must complete at least one semester at their new institution while maintaining active involvement in theatre before being eligible for membership in the new chapter.

 

National Dues

Membership in Alpha Psi Omega required a one-time payment of $40 per new inductee. Membership in Delta Psi Omega required a one-time payment of $20 per new inductee. These membership fees provide lifetime access to Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega and each member will receive a membership certificate and a membership card.

Types of Membership

Active Membership

Students inducted into Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega are considered active members during their time in college or university. Active members are encouraged to participate in their chapter’s activities, take on leadership roles, and contribute to their local theatre community.

 

Alumni Membership

Once you graduate, your connection to Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega doesn’t end. Alumni membership allows you to remain an active and engaged part of the organization network, continuing to contribute to the theatre community while benefiting from the resources and opportunities available to members for life.

 

Honorary Membership

Honorary membership may be conferred upon individuals who have made significant contributions to theatre activities, such as faculty, administrators, or community members. Honorary membership requires approval from the National Office. Students who do not meet regular eligibility criteria are unlikely to receive honorary status.

Membership Benefits

Lifetime Membership

Membership in Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega is for life and cannot be terminated. As a lifetime member, you remain part of a national network of theatre professionals, educators, and enthusiasts. Lifetime members are welcome to stay connected with their chapter and the larger Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega community. As a lifelong member, you gain:

Scholarships

Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega members can be nominated for scholarship funds by their chapter. These scholarships are designed to support further education or professional goals in the theatre field. Scholarships help ensure that your passion for the arts can continue to grow.

 

Networking Opportunities & Continued Involvement

The Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi Omega community extends beyond graduation. As an alum, you can continue to engage with your chapter in meaningful ways, such as:

  • Mentoring Current Students: Offer your guidance and expertise to the next generation of theatre artists.
  • Assisting with Productions: Volunteer or contribute to upcoming shows and events.
  • Guest Speaker or Workshop Facilitator: Share your knowledge with current members through workshops, talks, or Q&A sessions.
