Transferring Schools...
12/20/08 at 02:11:44

I am transferring from a school with an Alpha Psi Omega cast to a school with a Delta Psi Omega cast...how do I go about working that? I wish to not completely get out of the fraternity and then have to get back in under another one. Can I stay an Alpha Psi at a Delta Psi school? Or do I go on special status like other fraternities and sororities? I'm proud of becoming an Alpha Psi Omega and don't want to loose that just because I had to find a better Art program for my major....

And the big answer is... "it depends".

First of all, you're a member of Alpha Psi Omega for life.  Once you're initiated, you go into our files and you're set.  There is no mechanism to remove someone from those files.

For the local organization, it's very much chapter-to-chapter.  If they want to recognize your Alpha Psi membership by just letting you in to their chapter of Delta Psi, they can do that.  If they want to make you pledge again, they could do that.  I haven't heard of any chapters simply not recognizing someone's prior membership when they transfer, but I suppose it could happen.

The only REAL answer: go and talk to them and figure out what the local Constitution allows for and see what the members want to do.  (I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is "nothing" and "make it up".  That's pretty common.)

Cool. Thank you very much. That alleviates a lot of stressing I was doing!

It should be noted that if you wanted to "officially" join the DPO Cast at your new school, you'd have to pay the extra money to join their Cast file.

I found that out when I wanted to be an official member of my graduate school's Cast.  But that was back when we had slightly cheaper dues.  This call is up to you.
