I was wondering, could we put a picture of Dr. Opp, our Founder, on the Website?

Hmmm... let me see if I can track one down.  I figure I'll add it to the History page.

Through a more old-fashioned communications method I've also received a request for national forms to be made available on-line, so if a cast runs out they can just print up some more (pledge cards, initiation reports, etc).

As soon as Dr. Fisher gets me copies to scan I'll be doing just that.

Also, a request was made to put up an online Playbill submission form.  At the moment, that won't be happening because the Playbill is still being assembled the old fashioned way, no computers involved.  As the Playbill goes more hi-tech, we'll go there.  There's certainly nothing stopping us from adding that to the website...

I just got a "new" scanner up and running, so I'll get things scanned asap... but take into account that I'm renovating a house, and modify "asap" for that.

Hey Joel - any luck on getting pictures of items for sale from the NBM or the Founder's pic up on the new website?

I have access to most items for sale with only a little effort, I'll see if I can actually get my hands on them this weekend.  Digital camera is a wonderful thing.

I haven't come across a picture of our founder to use.

I've got the wad of forms, and my new computer won't connect to the old scanner... I need to just get a new scanner.   Blah.

James Fisher prints a picture of Dr. Opp in almost all the recent editions of Playbill.  You might try him for a computerized pic.  Just thought you'd like to know.

And yes, scanner troubles can be awful.  My old scanner doesn't work with my laptop.  Bugs the crap out of me sometimes.

Everyone has already mentioned pics of the merchandise to be put online.  There are also a lot of questions about traditions and such in the forums but the people "in the know" are afraid to post anything due to the public nature of the forum.  We already have a registration/login setup...any way to make parts of the forum secure so members can share confidential information about the organization??

Ahhh... the ever popular story of "round tuits".  I've got a lot of square ones, but I'll manage to do some of what you're suggesting when I get a round tuit.

Two problems with it, though.  First, I want to get the two sets of logins merged - the website has them, and so does this forum (look at the bottom of the left side menu and you'll see the login on the main site page.)  Second, anyone at all can sign up for the forums and I have no way to prove that anyone here is a member... including you, or even me.

The logins for the website are controlled directly by me - that's for updating the site, so the National Board and the Regional Representatives have logins.  I can thus control not only the authentication, but the authorization - you are who you say you are, and this is what you're allowed to do.  How can I do that here?

If *anyone* can answer that last question, I'll do it in a second.

I don't know much about YaBB so I don't know about merging the logins or about gaining autorization abilities for this board.  I can try to ask some of my computer guru friends.

Do have an idea...don't know how reasonable it is however.  You have control over the website login.  What about creating a secure forum through that?  To make sure the people logging in are members, instead of each individual having login information, it's done on the cast level.  For example, my cast's user name would be Xi Delta and use a password of your creation and this would be sent to our advisor for him to share with the cast.  No one could request login information and only members of the active casts would have access to the forum.  Don't know how well that could work, but it's an idea  Smiley

Heh... YaBB is an antique, and as soon as I find something else that doesn't suck it'll be getting replaced.  phpBB is a horrible security hole, please don't bother suggesting it - I've used it elsewhere and I've had it broken in to.  This runs on my personal server, I'm not willing to risk that.  (Yes, I really host the national website on my own machine... it's what I do for a living as well.)

The concept of a cast-level login has been thought of and discussed somewhat.  The biggest problem is that we actually have contact information for... 15 casts?  20 casts?  In general we haven't been keeping useful records of that on the national level, so we have no way to send it out.  With the upcoming change of National Business Manager, things will be changing on our end, and hopefully there will be progress in this area.

We have a new NBM, and as I mentioned above things will start to change a bit.  I'll ask him for the picture of Dr. Opp, since he should now have it and has a working scanner.  Also, we suddenly have some pictures of the supplies posted, and I'm working on more of them.  (We need a less ugly banner... ick.)  Also, more cast reactivation stuff is posted - the full forms packet is available.  And more forms, specifically the Initation Report.  No one can ever again claim they don't have one Smiley

A preview of upcoming changes, as a teaser: our new NBM will be directly handling "last active date" updates, so those will be more timely.  Online Playbill submissions were discussed at SETC, and should be forthcoming "soon".  Online Playbills, too.
