Not long ago, www.alphapsiomega.org was blessed by the Grand Cast as the national website.  Now, as the keeper of the website, I'm looking for suggestions.

My first rule of websites is the KISS principle.  The most flashy anything will get here is the animated smileys in the bulletin board.

My second rule is that anything involving content has to be approved by the Grand Cast (we haven't figured out whether it's just Teresa, or everyone)

At this point, everything else is up for grabs.

One thing that would be very useful (though I don't know if nationals will allow it) would be the constitution.  As an individual chapter, we often need to look to the National Constition for guidence.  Easy access to this resource would be greatly appreciated.

I should have replied to this earlier.  Current policy is that the Constitution, By-laws, and Ceremonies are secret, and as such will not be posted on a public web site.

I don't quite understand why the Constitution and By-laws are secret, so I'm going to occasionally ask the question again until someone comes up with a real explanation, or changes the policy.

National publishes its national constitution, a sample chapter constitution and its ceremonies in the same booket.  The Constitution includes a sample points system for determining membership - and many chapters keep this, or their version of it, secret lest the chapter be armtwisted into accepting people automatically.

My own chapter, for example, passes the list of prospectives to the theatre faculty for their advise and consent before voting on bids - we seldom get a turn down, but if somebody's got excess academic or personal troubles we don't know about, it can be actively helpful to keep the extra time requirements of our pledge process off their backs until they're in better condition to deal with them.  However, if you have people counting exact points, you could get some really hard feelings within the theatre community if one is pledged and somebody else with the minimum points isn't - even if there's a difference in merit or readiness.

I know I'm new and all, but this is my second year in APO and I still know next to nothing about the organization.  I was even voted to an office this fall.  The only constitution that we could find was last updated in 1964.  So not many people know what's what.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have just moved back to the USA after living and working overseas for 35 years. I am interested in rekindling my mebership in Alpha Psi Omega. I was inducted into the organization in 1965 at Westfield State College in MA - they are no longer an active cast. Is there any way I can hook up with a group - I now live in Monroe, NY - any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

One thing you might want to implement is some kind of check for registrants to this bulletin board against the National Registry.  As a new member of APO I went to this website to get more information.  When I registered on this board I was not asked if I was a member, what cast I belonged to, or any kind of verification.  I would think, as a secret organization, there would be better security.

I agree.  If there is supposed to be some secrecy to our traditions and such, if they are going to be openly discussed here it shouldn't let anyone on the board.

Could there be some way to use this website to unify just exactly what our traditions, symbols, etc are?  There is so much speculation between casts but little contact between casts outside a 50 mile radius so a lot of things are a mystery, especially to the new or re-instated casts.

I would love to.  There's only one minor problem - there is no National Registry against which to check.  Even if there were, how would we know that I'm actually the Joel Lord initiated into the Delta Xi Cast in 1997?  (For example, obviously.)  I could put in some question about the ceremonies or such, but then you'd have to know the traditions in order to find out about the traditions...

If Dr. Jones and I get ambitious and try to move Alpha Psi Omega to some electronic records keeping of members, this would become possible.  As it stands, the records of all the people ever initiated is 4.5 full-size filing cabinets in a storage room at his school in Ada, OK.  We'd need to convert those into some more useful format...
